Welcome to Vinton Elementary School!

Vinton Elementary School, 3101 Elmwood Ave., Lafayette, has a population of close to 500 students in Kindergarten through fourth grade.

Our beautiful building is divided into individual grade-level classroom groupings that we call Pods. Each pod has four classrooms and a common area that is used for small group work. Vinton School currently houses five Kindergarten, four first-grade, four second-grade, four third-grade and four fourth-grade classrooms. We also have three resource rooms, a life-skills classroom and a speech therapy room.

In addition to the core curricular areas, our students also receive instruction in art, music, physical education, and media services each week. Lafayette School Corp. is known state and nationwide for our amazing fine arts and athletic programs. This interest and commitment begins at the elementary level and continues throughout our students' educational career. Many of our students have been recognized for their performances through these special classroom opportunities.

Technology has an important place within our walls.  All of our K-fourth grade students benefit from the one-to-one initiative, where each student has his/her own iPad to use at school. All of our students benefit from a variety of technology resources: BenQ Boards, Nooks, document cameras and Apple TV. The world is at our students' fingertips!

Vinton is a Title I School, which means we receive federal funding to support reading and math instruction. We use this money to hire additional teachers, support staff, technology and materials to help our students reach their goals. Mrs. Yuill is the lead Title I teacher at Vinton School.

Student medical concerns are handled by a full-time nurse on site each day. Nurse Melanie Perkins can be contacted at school for any medical issues that might arise during the school year.

We are fortunate to have the United Way's support at Vinton School. Through United Way we receive Read to Succeed volunteers each week and Kindergarten Countdown Camp. A variety of local organizations also provide mentors for our students who need a little extra adult attention throughout their school day.

Through the support of Food Finders and Bethany Church, we are able to participate in the Backpack Program at Vinton School. Families who need a little extra support receive backpacks filled with food and necessities on Friday afternoons.

Vinton is made up of a community of learners, teachers, students, parents and a community that values the importance of a quality education in today’s changing world. We could not do the amazing things we do within our walls without the support of such a great community. Vinton School is a caring community of learners who work together and strive toward excellence for all students.
